Reuben sandwich

There seem to be many conflicting stories on the history of the Reuben Sandwich and where and when it was first invented.  I just know that whoever Reuben is, I like him ...  ​and his sandwich.  Whilst there a few variations out there I made a superb combination of:
​
​1 loaf of dark rye bread, buttered on the outside
​1 cup of thousand island sauce (equal parts tomato sauce and good quality mayo)
​1 jar of sauerkraut 
300g ​pastrami or silverside 
​10 slices of swiss cheese

All layered within two pieces of rye, toasted and served with a pickle. ​

​You really have to get your hands sauerkraut by Foley's Frothing Fermentations.  I was lucky enough to stumble upon this local producer via Urban Locavore.

​​I have a confession.  I have a girl crush.  On a girl called Katie.   
​
​Since Katie (well her cookbook) came into my life, my thirst for cooking is now hard to quench.  Each weekend I have been drawing inspiration from her gorgeous cookbook What Katie Ate.  On this particular weekend it was her Barbecued ginger ale pork ribs  that got me.  I threw together a green slaw with shredded apples and sticky fig balsamic and a little side of pan fried haloumi with fresh limes.

Law and Order: Culinary Intent

That sunny Spring afternoon of 16 Sept 2012 holds many fond memories.  Known to some as Tick Tock's last supper.  May he rest in disco peace.  To others, Mr Levins' launch partay for his awesome cookbook 'Diner' (which I love).  And to me ... the first time and hopefully not the last time I satisfied my tummy with Gracey's cooking.   From time to time Miss Ophelia pops up at The Bird with Law and Order: Culinary Intent.   Best name, best lady, mean corn dogs.

YELP GARDEN PARTY

Less than a year ago I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Dew of Yelp.  We sat down at Five Bar and over coffee chatted for what felt like hours instantly becoming friends.   Over the year I have been lucky enough to have Laura in my life in both a personal and professional level.  Warm, caring, friendly and full of life ... after a 5 minute conversation you just cannot help but love her whilst Yelping your life away.  

Saturday, 13 April sees Perth's First Yelper Party kick off at Perth City Farm for Yelp's
Garden Party.  Yelper's will be snacking on delectable creations of some of Perth's finest - El Publico, Smoult's Continental Deli, Red Hot Spatula, Delish Ice, Bahen & Co Chocolate and Top The Cupcake.

It was with sadness that I declined my invitation as special someones in my life are tying the knot.  I cannot wait to see all the floral photos flow through my newsfeed tomorrow. Have fun Yelpers!

breakfast pizzas

Preheat oven to 150.
​Add chopped spring onion, garlic and sundried tomato with a little oil to a pita bread or pizza base.
​Heat in oven whilst you panfry chopped mushrooms and walnut in garlic and butter.
​Fry two eggs until base is firm enough to move.  Ensure you leave yoke not quite cooked.
​Add to pizza bases and cook for another 5-10 minutes.
​Garnish with parsley and sprinkle pepper and volcanic sea salt.
